The intent of this piece is to examine Schaeffer’s
concrete sound object, the context of its inspiration, and to develop
practical guidelines for transformations of the sound object for the
purposes of creating composed musical pieces.
As a preliminary practical step the piece Die Amsel has been created making use of some of these parameters but instead of establishing itself in a purely musical form has problematised the discourses between nature/culture and digital/physical. Respectively, one end of the continua is the blackbird and the other electric guitar. A primary goal of this piece and the compositional work in general is to blur lines of demarkation between the poles and create an ambiguous impression of where one territory ends and the other begins.
